Message-processing exhaustion via unreleased contexts
Published Sep 11, 2026 · Updated Sep 11, 2026
Resource leak in the eCryptfs messaging layer in Linux from 2.6.26 allows attackers to exhaust reusable message contexts. ecryptfs_send_message_locked moves a context to the allocated list before calling ecryptfs_send_miscdev but fails to return it when that send fails. Reachability requires eCryptfs and a userspace-daemon send failure; public material does not establish attacker control over that failure or a broader system crash.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
