CVE-2026-89577

dm-raid1 leg failure via misclassified I/O errors

Published Sep 11, 2026 · Updated Sep 11, 2026

Improper error handling in dm-io in Linux 6.18 allows attackers to fail a dm-raid1 leg through unaligned bio vectors. dm-io places BLK_STS_NOTSUPP and BLK_STS_INVAL in the same error bitmap as genuine device failures, so dm-raid1 treats either status as a failed mirror leg. Reachability requires a dm-raid1 mapping and I/O with unaligned bio vectors; the documented consequence is erroneous leg failure rather than data disclosure or code execution.
