Service disruption via leaked snapshot metadata blocks
Published Sep 11, 2026 · Updated Sep 11, 2026
Resource leak in Linux dm-era allows attackers to consume persistent metadata blocks when snapshot creation encounters an increment failure. metadata_take_snap() allocates a shadow block, but its error paths unlock the clone without decrementing that block after dm_sm_inc_block() fails. The path requires a configured dm-era target and a failed writeset or era-array root increment; repeated failures permanently deplete metadata space and can interrupt snapshot operations.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
