CVE-2026-89500

Kernel crash via stale ring-buffer page order

Published Sep 11, 2026 · Updated Sep 11, 2026

Race condition in the Linux kernel 6.8 ring buffer allows attackers to crash the kernel or leak memory during concurrent resizing. A cached reader page retains its old allocation order, but the discard path passes the newly updated global sub-buffer order to free_pages(). Triggering requires reader-page disposal to race with a sub-buffer resize, producing an invalid page free or leaving the old allocation unreleased.
