CVE-2026-89497

Kernel heap overwrite via whitespace parsing mismatch

Published Sep 11, 2026 · Updated Sep 11, 2026

Out-of-bounds write in the Linux kernel OrangeFS client debug-mask parser allows attackers to overwrite kernel heap memory. orangefs_prepare_cdm_array() sizes each keyword with strcspn() before sscanf() skips leading whitespace and copies a later token into the undersized allocation. A client debug entry must begin with a space; the upstream record does not establish whether the overwrite causes a crash or code execution.
