CVE-2026-89496

Kernel-memory leak via skipped CoW deallocation

Published Sep 11, 2026 · Updated Sep 11, 2026

Memory leak in Linux kernel OCFS2 allows local users to consume kernel memory through same-filesystem copy_file_range operations. OCFS2 copy-on-write completion paths conditionally skip ocfs2_run_deallocs after the suballocator queues extent removal, leaving cached blocks allocated. Exploitation requires local access and an OCFS2 filesystem; repeated operations retain small kernel objects and can progressively reduce available memory.
