Out-of-bounds read via unchecked directory entry counts
Published Sep 11, 2026 · Updated Sep 11, 2026
Out-of-bounds read in Linux OCFS2 directory indexing allows attackers to read beyond a metadata block via a crafted mounted image. The ocfs2_validate_dx_leaf() and ocfs2_validate_dx_root() paths accept de_count and de_num_used without checking block capacity, so ocfs2_dx_dir_search() walks beyond the 4KB entry array. An OCFS2 image containing an indexed directory must already be mounted, after which a lookup, stat() call, or open() reaches the unsafe walk; no data disclosure or crash is demonstrated.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
