Kernel memory corruption via unchecked port counts
Published Sep 11, 2026 · Updated Sep 11, 2026
Out-of-bounds write in the Linux cros_usbpd charger driver allows attackers controlling an embedded controller to corrupt kernel memory. The probe trusts matching USB PD and charger port counts up to 255 and uses the charger count to index an eight-entry ports array without enforcing EC_USB_PD_MAX_PORTS. Reachability requires a malicious or compromised ChromeOS embedded controller to supply excessive counts during driver probing; the documented consequence is a slab overwrite of up to 247 pointers.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
