Local kernel panic via DASD sysfs race
Published Sep 11, 2026 · Updated Sep 11, 2026
NULL pointer dereference in Linux allows local users to panic the kernel by reading a world-readable s390 DASD sysfs attribute. During dasd_generic_set_online(), the driver assigns the discipline before check_device() allocates device->private, while several show/store callbacks dereference that pointer without a NULL guard. The race requires local access to a matching s390 DASD sysfs attribute during device online setup, and successful exploitation crashes the host rather than exposing or modifying data.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
