CVE-2026-89441

Kernel crash via queued card-detect use-after-free

Published Sep 11, 2026 · Updated Sep 11, 2026

Use-after-free in the Linux via-sdmmc driver allows attackers to crash the kernel by racing card-detect work with controller removal. via_sd_remove() frees the host without cancelling queued carddet_work, so via_sdc_card_detect() later recovers that freed object and dereferences its MMIO base. Reachability requires the affected VIA SD/MMC driver and controller-removal timing that overlaps already queued card-detect work; the bounded consequence is a kernel crash.
