File disclosure via parent-directory symlink following
Published Sep 11, 2026 · Updated Sep 11, 2026
File disclosure in Hugo Authors Hugo allows attackers to read files outside project boundaries via direct lookups through symlinks. The resources.Get and os.ReadFile functions follow parent-directory symlinks instead of rejecting them, exposing file contents in the built site. Exploitation requires placing a symlink in a mounted directory or convincing a site author to do so; GitHub-fetched Go module themes strip symlinks, and multi-directory walks are unaffected.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
