Certificate impersonation via skipped ancestor constraints
Published Sep 27, 2026 · Updated Sep 27, 2026
Improper certificate validation in wolfSSL 5.9.2 and earlier allows remote attackers to impersonate unauthorized hostnames via crafted chains. ParseCertRelative checks only the immediate signer's NameConstraints and resets constraint state at an unconstrained intermediate instead of walking every ancestor CA. The default certificate-verification build is affected when a constrained CA delegates through an unconstrained CA, allowing acceptance of a leaf outside the permitted namespace.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
