Remote code execution via template-created Git directory
Published Sep 10, 2026 · Updated Sep 10, 2026
Remote code execution in Forgejo before 15.0.8 and 16.0.0 through 16.0.3 allows remote authenticated users to run host processes. Template expansion can create a new .git directory that Git adopts during repository initialization, including attacker-controlled configuration. Exploitation requires permission to create and instantiate a template repository and enables host-file reads and process execution under the Forgejo service account.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
