CVE-2026-88922

Privilege escalation via preserved archive permission bits

Published Sep 15, 2026 · Updated Sep 15, 2026

Improper archive extraction in HashiCorp go-getter 1.8.8 and earlier and 2.2.3 and earlier allows local users to gain process privileges. The archive decompressor preserves elevated permission bits from crafted entries when creating extracted files. Exploitation requires a privileged process to extract the archive, after which a local user can obtain that process’s privileges through the resulting files.
