File disclosure and SSRF via XML entity expansion
Published Oct 19, 2026 · Updated Oct 19, 2026
XXE in Apache Camel camel-smooks allows remote attackers to read local files or reach internal hosts via crafted XML bodies. The Smooks data format and component pass incoming XML to the default Woodstox SAX reader without hardening, allowing external entities and DTDs to be resolved during unmarshalling. Exploitation requires attacker-controlled XML to reach that reader; file disclosure is limited to process-readable content returned through routes, and configurations declaring EDI, CSV, JSON, or custom readers are unaffected.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
