MFA bypass via assurance-blind direct RBAC authorization
Published Sep 10, 2026 · Updated Sep 10, 2026
Authentication bypass in Capgo allows remote authenticated users with a victim's password to obtain app_admin privileges without MFA. The foundJWT middleware accepts an aal1 JWT without checking its assurance level, while checkPermission authorizes the user ID without conveying or enforcing the session AAL. A verified MFA factor must exist but remain unused in the session; password access is enough to mint a persistent app_admin API key and alter production OTA channel configuration.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
