Password disclosure via auto-login URL query strings
Published Oct 11, 2026 · Updated Oct 11, 2026
Password disclosure in Simple Membership before 4.8.3 allows attackers to read new members' credentials via auto-login redirect URLs. The registration auto-login flow places the newly submitted plaintext password in the URL query string, exposing it in browser history and web server, proxy, and CDN access logs. Exposure requires the optional auto-login-after-registration feature and access to those histories or logs; the disclosed credential belongs to the newly registered member.
