Authenticated code execution via Unicode conversion overflow
Published Sep 15, 2026 · Updated Sep 15, 2026
Buffer overflow in GitLab EE allows remote authenticated users to execute code by importing a crafted Git project export. During Advanced Search indexing, the Unicode conversion wrapper writes converted project data beyond its allocated buffer. An account able to import projects and a configuration that indexes the import are required; successful exploitation runs code on the server.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
- Affected versionversion=12.3 <19.1.8
- Affected versionversion=19.2 <19.2.6
