Process termination via unchecked numeric narrowing
Published Sep 24, 2026 · Updated Sep 24, 2026
Incorrect numeric conversion in LibRaw 0.22.0 allows attackers to terminate image-processing applications via a crafted RAW, TIFF, or DNG file. LibRaw::parse_tiff_ifd() reads NewSubfileType through getreal() and narrows the attacker-controlled value to int without checking its range. Exploitation requires an application to parse the malicious file; the out-of-range conversion triggers undefined behavior and terminates sanitizer-enabled processes.
