Process crash via zero-length opaque attribute
Published Sep 24, 2026 · Updated Sep 24, 2026
NULL pointer dereference in OpenEXR 3.4.14 allows context-dependent attackers to crash a process by supplying a crafted EXR file. During C++ attribute parsing, a zero-length unknown attribute leaves packed_data NULL, and OpaqueAttribute passes it to memcpy without a guard. The file must be opened by a victim application; the documented consequence is process termination rather than data disclosure or code execution.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
