Application crash via undersized MP4 configuration atoms
Published Sep 24, 2026 · Updated Sep 24, 2026
Out-of-bounds writes in Bento4 1.6.0.0 allow attackers to terminate applications that parse a specially crafted MP4 file. The AP4_AvccAtom::Create and AP4_HvccAtom::Create paths subtract the eight-byte atom header from a smaller unsigned avcC or hvcC size, then use the underflowed payload length for buffer allocation and copying. Exploitation requires an application to process the malformed file and results in a deterministic crash rather than a reported confidentiality or integrity impact.
