Process crash via misaligned PFM pixel access
Published Sep 24, 2026 · Updated Sep 24, 2026
Memory access error in libvips 8.19.0 allows attackers to crash image-processing processes with a crafted little-endian PFM image. The mmap-based PFM loader exposes pixel data at a non-four-byte-aligned address when the text header length is not divisible by four, and vips_avg_scan() dereferences that buffer as float values. Processing the crafted file on a strict-alignment architecture or under an undefined-behavior sanitizer terminates the consuming process; no data disclosure or modification is reported.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
