Process corruption via unchecked UNICHARSET index
Published Sep 10, 2026 · Updated Sep 10, 2026
Heap out-of-bounds write in Tesseract 5.5.3 and earlier allows attackers to crash or corrupt a process via crafted traineddata. UNICHARSET::load_via_fgets trusts the declared character count while failed insertions leave the unichars vector shorter, then set_* operations index it with an unchecked id. Exploitation requires initialization of an attacker-controlled model; both the default LSTM and legacy engines reach the unsafe writes.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.

What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
