CVE-2026-88046Network attack vector

Root escape via unvalidated source object names

Published Sep 10, 2026 · Updated Sep 10, 2026

Path traversal in rclone before 1.75.1 allows context-dependent attackers to write objects outside a configured destination root during transfers. Core transfer paths pass raw Object.Remote() values to affected destination backends, whose path.Join(root, remote) calls collapse parent-directory segments before EncodeDot can neutralize them. Exploitation requires a crafted object name in a source store processed by the victim; resulting copies can reach another bucket, share, or path available to the victim credential.
