Message tampering via missing authorship check
Published Sep 9, 2026 · Updated Sep 10, 2026
Missing authorization in Open WebUI 0.9.5 through 0.11.0 allows remote authenticated users to overwrite another channel member's message. The channel branch of chat_completion accepts a supplied message_id after checking channel membership and write access but never verifies that the caller authored the targeted message. Channels must be enabled, and the caller must be an approved member with channel write access; the altered text remains stored under the victim's identity.
