Vault secret disclosure via incomplete error redaction
Published Sep 10, 2026 · Updated Sep 10, 2026
Information disclosure in HashiCorp consul-template 0.27.2 through 0.42.1 allows remote authenticated users to read Vault secrets. The error-path redactor does not correctly handle every Vault secret response shape, leaving certain field values verbatim in template errors and logs. Exposure requires a failing template that processes non-KV-v1 Vault data; Nomad users with job-read permissions can obtain leaked values from task events.
