Client-host file overwrite via inconsistent VM agent listings
Published Sep 28, 2026 · Updated Sep 28, 2026
Improper link resolution in Canonical LXD's recursive CLI pull on Linux allows guest OS users to write files outside the client target. The client trusts inconsistent SFTP directory listings and Lstat results: a duplicate entry first creates a symlink, then a later file or directory operation follows it. Exploitation requires root control of a VM agent and an operator-initiated recursive pull; writes carry the operator's privileges, and container transfers are unaffected.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
- Affected versionversion=4.0.2 <4.0.14
- Affected versionversion=5.0.0 <5.0.10
- Affected versionversion=5.21.0 <5.21.8
