Code execution via unsanitized image download paths
Published Oct 12, 2026 · Updated Oct 12, 2026
Path traversal in Metasploit Framework before 6.5.5 allows attackers to write local files through ios_image_gather. Its enum_img method inserts device-controlled directory entries into download_file destinations without removing traversal components, escaping the loot directory. Exploitation requires an operator to run the module against a hostile iOS Meterpreter session; existing files are skipped, but planting an absent msfconsole.rc enables code execution as the operator at the next default console launch.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
