Client crash via uncaught decompression callback exceptions
Published Oct 15, 2026 · Updated Oct 15, 2026
Uncaught exceptions in Undici 7.15.0 through 7.30.0 and 8.0.0 through 8.12.1 allow remote attackers to crash Node.js clients. The decompress interceptor invokes downstream handlers from asynchronous zlib callbacks without catching their exceptions. Exploitation requires a malicious HTTP response and composition with a throwing handler such as dump; exceeding its decompressed-size limit terminates the process, or hangs the request until its body timeout when a global uncaught-exception handler keeps the process alive.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
- Affected versionversion=7.15.0 <7.30.1
- Affected versionversion=8.0.0 <8.12.2

What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
