File overwrite and credential theft via database injection
Published Sep 17, 2026 · Updated Sep 17, 2026
Injection in pgAdmin 4's Backup tool before 9.18 allows remote authenticated users to overwrite files and steal database credentials. The Backup handler appends the unvalidated database field to pg_dump arguments, allowing injected options to override the output path and libpq connection strings to redirect the connection with the stored password. Exploitation requires tools_backup permission, granted to the default User role, and a connected server; writes remain limited to the pgAdmin operating-system account's permissions, and direct code execution is not demonstrated.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
