Host-process crash via unchecked memory mapping size
Published Oct 14, 2026 · Updated Oct 14, 2026
DoS in DPDK 25.11.0 lib/vhost allows local users to crash the host process via crafted vhost-user memory-region messages. The vhost_user_mmap_region() function maps a supplied memory size without checking the backing file's actual length, leaving subsequent accesses beyond that file unsafe. Exploitation requires access to the vhost-user Unix socket; the reported crash interrupts networking for guests sharing the process.
