Browser script execution via unescaped annotated output
Published May 16, 2026 · Updated May 16, 2026
Cross-site scripting in jsondiffpatch before 0.7.6 allows remote attackers to execute browser scripts through annotated diff output. The annotated formatter inserts JSON values, property names, and text-diff pieces into generated HTML without escaping metacharacters. Exploitation requires an application to compare attacker-controlled data, place the formatter output in the DOM, and induce a user to view it; resulting script runs in that application's browser origin.
