Heap corruption via unchecked video metadata geometry
Published Oct 14, 2026 · Updated Oct 14, 2026
Heap corruption in GStreamer gst-plugins-base before 1.28.8 allows attackers to access memory beyond video buffers via crafted metadata. GstVideoMeta deserialization accepts plane offsets and strides without checking that the described geometry fits the backing allocation. Exploitation requires a consuming application to map or copy attacker-supplied metadata from IPC or network input; the resulting memory corruption permits crashes and creates a code-execution risk within that process.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
