Arbitrary file write via entry-point path traversal
Published Jun 1, 2026 · Updated Jun 1, 2026
Path traversal in Python Packaging Authority pip 24.0 through 26.1.1 allows local users to write scripts outside the installation directory. PipScriptMaker passed untrusted console_scripts or gui_scripts names to distlib, which joined them to the scripts directory without rejecting separators, .. components, or absolute paths. Exploitation requires an authorized user to install a crafted package; the resulting write carries only that user's filesystem permissions.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
