Cross-project private image disclosure via unchecked fingerprint reuse
Published Sep 28, 2026 · Updated Sep 28, 2026
Missing authorization in Canonical LXD before 5.0.10, 5.21.8, or 6.10 lets remote authenticated users import other projects' private images. In imageDownload, GetImageFromAnyProject reuses a locally matching fingerprint without checking whether the source image is public or the caller can view it. The caller needs image-creation or instance-creation rights in a restricted project and prior knowledge of the private image fingerprint; the copied image's properties and files then become accessible in the caller's project.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
