AMF crash via cross-RAN partial reset

Published Sep 6, 2026 · Updated Sep 6, 2026

Denial of service in Open5GS AMF/MME 2.7.7 and 2.8.0 allows remote attackers to crash AMF via a crafted partial reset. The partial NG/S1 reset handlers resolve supplied UE identifiers globally without confirming that the referenced UE belongs to the sending gNB or eNB, then later dereference a cleared reset-acknowledgement buffer and abort. An accepted N2 or S1 association and a victim UE with an active session are required; one crafted reset terminates the core process and interrupts every UE it serves.
