Remote code execution via unchecked multipack model loading
Published Sep 5, 2026 · Updated Sep 8, 2026
Code execution in Axolotl 0 through 0.18.0 allows remote attackers to run arbitrary Python via a malicious Hugging Face model repository. The _apply_multipack_patches method leaves a detected remote-code condition enabled when trust_remote_code is unset, and patch_remote passes trust_remote_code=True to AutoModelForCausalLM.from_pretrained. Exploitation requires a user to select the attacker-controlled repository as base_model; its Python executes with the training process's permissions.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
