Credential exposure via unguarded model search
Published Sep 8, 2026 · Updated Sep 8, 2026
Credential exposure in affected n8n branches allows remote authenticated users to disclose OpenAI API keys through model search. The loadModels.ts searchModels path accepts an editor-controlled options.baseURL and sends the stored openAiApi credential without calling assertOpenAiCredentialAllowsUrl. Workflow-editing access and a shared OpenAI credential are required; successful exploitation exposes that credential to an attacker-controlled host.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
