Code installation via SHA-shaped branch name
Published Oct 13, 2026 · Updated Oct 13, 2026
Hash-pin bypass in Anthropic Claude Code before 2.1.179 allows remote attackers to install unreviewed code through marketplace plugins. The plugin installer runs git checkout without checking that HEAD matches the pinned SHA, allowing a default branch named after that SHA to replace the reviewed commit. Exploitation requires repository control, a Git host permitting SHA-shaped branch names, and a user-installed plugin pinned to the ostensibly safe hash.
