Command execution via note-filename argument injection
Published Oct 13, 2026 · Updated Oct 13, 2026
Argument injection in VNote before 4.3.0 allows attackers to execute commands via crafted note filenames passed to external programs. SessionConfig::ExternalProgram::fetchCommand double-quotes the path without escaping embedded quotes, and ProcessUtils::startDetached passes the resulting string to QProcess for argument reparsing. On Linux and macOS, opening an untrusted note through a configured program with command-executing options, such as vim, executes commands as the user.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
