Local-file disclosure via unsanitized YAML frontmatter
Published Oct 13, 2026 · Updated Oct 13, 2026
Stored XSS in VNote before 4.3.0 allows remote attackers to read local notes when an attacker-supplied Markdown note is opened. In src/data/extra/web/js/markdownit.js, the frontmatter callback assigns untrusted metadata to preNode.innerHTML before protectFromXss sanitization runs. Opening the note executes JavaScript in the file:// viewer context, where enabled remote requests allow reachable local note contents to be transmitted without further interaction.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
