Denial of service via unbounded portmapper reply decoding
Published Oct 16, 2026 · Updated Oct 16, 2026
Resource exhaustion in libtirpc's pmap_getmaps() allows remote attackers to interrupt client applications via crafted portmapper replies. Its xdr_pmaplist decoder processes attacker-supplied PMAPPROC_DUMP list entries without a count limit, consuming memory and CPU. The client must query an attacker-controlled host; the supplied source does not specify whether exhaustion causes a hang or crash.
