Manifest substitution via missing digest verification
Published Oct 13, 2026 · Updated Oct 13, 2026
Integrity bypass in CNCF Distribution before 3.1.2 allows remote attackers to substitute manifests via registry responses. The registry/client manifests.Get method passes response bytes to distribution.UnmarshalManifest without comparing their hash with the requested digest. Exploitation requires upstream registry control or connection interception; the bundled pull-through proxy caches and re-serves substituted manifests.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
