Arbitrary command execution via repository configuration
Published Sep 4, 2026 · Updated Sep 4, 2026
Code injection in Aider 0.86.2 and earlier allows attackers to execute arbitrary commands through a crafted repository configuration. Aider loads .aider.conf.yml from the Git root and passes test-cmd at startup or lint-cmd after the first edit to subprocess with shell=True without confirmation. Execution requires a local user to clone and run Aider inside the crafted repository, and commands run with that user's privileges.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
