Process crash via zero-height Type 3 glyph
Published Sep 3, 2026 · Updated Sep 4, 2026
Divide-by-zero in Type 3 glyph handling in Glyph & Cog, LLC Xpdf 4.06 and earlier allows local users to crash a process. When Xpdf processes a Type 3 glyph whose height is zero, the glyph-handling path uses that height as a divisor without rejecting the invalid metric. A crafted PDF must reach an Xpdf viewer or utility, and the resulting arithmetic exception interrupts that processing instance without reported data disclosure or modification.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.

Attacks
What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
