Process-memory disclosure via crafted JPEG decoding
Published May 14, 2026 · Updated May 14, 2026
Out-of-bounds read in Google Chrome's Media component before 148.0.7778.168 on Linux and ChromeOS allows remote attackers to read process memory. A crafted JPEG reaches an out-of-bounds read in Media, but Google has not disclosed the decoder, function, buffer, or failed boundary check. Exploitation requires a compromised renderer process and exposes only memory readable from that process, with no reported write or code-execution impact.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.

What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
