CVE-2026-85288Public exploitHinoki check available

Code execution via ungated multi-run macro playback

Published Sep 22, 2026 · Updated Sep 22, 2026

Protection-mechanism bypass in Notepad++ before 8.9.8 allows local users to execute commands through a tampered shortcuts.xml macro. The WM_MACRODLGRUNMACRO handler calls macroPlayback() directly, skipping the HMAC validation applied by command() to the same untrusted macro data. Exploitation requires write access to the user's configuration and interaction with the multi-run dialog; successful macros run internal commands or launch programs in that user's context.
