CVE-2026-85272Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Cross-tenant file corruption via path-prefix bypass

Published Sep 18, 2026 · Updated Sep 18, 2026

Path traversal in Open edX Platform Aspen.1 through Ulmo.3 and before Verawood.1 allows remote authenticated users to corrupt course files. The _is_bad_path helper compares resolved extraction targets with startswith, so a crafted tar member can escape into a sibling staging directory whose name extends the same base64 prefix. Exploitation requires course-import permission and a .tar.gz upload; it permits limited cross-tenant staging-file corruption, not file reads, arbitrary filesystem writes, or direct code execution.
