Host file deletion via unvalidated btrfs subvolume path
Published Sep 28, 2026 · Updated Sep 28, 2026
Path traversal in Canonical LXD's btrfs storage driver allows remote authenticated users to delete arbitrary host files via backup or migration data. The driver accepts a subvolume path from an optimized backup header or migration header and joins it to a storage path without confining traversal before root-run file operations. Instance-creation permission and a btrfs storage pool are required; placing attacker-controlled content outside the pool additionally requires the host root filesystem to be btrfs.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
