CVE-2026-85092

Root-owned file overwrite via symlink following

Published Sep 3, 2026 · Updated Sep 3, 2026

Path-handling weakness in Joe Sylve LiME 1.12.0 and earlier allows local users to overwrite root-owned files via an output-path symlink. The disk acquisition path is opened without destination validation or O_NOFOLLOW, so a precreated symbolic link is followed and its target is truncated with the memory stream. Exploitation requires control of the output directory before a privileged acquisition, and the bounded consequence is corruption of an attacker-chosen root-owned file.
